Privacy Policy

Last updated 19 October 2026

The short version

  • You can use BetterLive without an account. Your schedule, progress and preferences then stay on your device.
  • With an account, we keep what the premium and team features need, listed below, and use it only to run BetterLive.
  • If your company gives you BetterLive, it sees totals for teams and for the company, never your individual activity. Totals are withheld for any group of fewer than three people.
  • We don't sell your data, show ads, or use analytics or advertising trackers.

Who we are

BetterLive is operated by a company registered in Brazil under CNPJ 68.548.289/0001-11 ("BetterLive", "we"). We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy under Brazil's General Data Protection Law (Lei nº 13.709/2018, the "LGPD").

Our contact for data protection, including the role of data protection officer (encarregado) under the LGPD, is r16221639@gmail.com.

What stays on your device

Without an account, the mobile and desktop apps keep everything on your device: your work hours, movement preferences, today's breaks, your streak and your progress.

The apps still go online to download the exercise catalog and its videos, and a daily quote from dummyjson.com. These requests don't include your account or your activity.

The desktop app covers your screens during a break. It does not pause, close or read your other applications.

What we collect when you have an account

  • Account. Your email address, whether you verified it, and your password, stored only as a hash. If you sign in with Google, your Google account identifier and a link to your Google profile picture. We don't copy the picture.
  • Profile. Display name, language, time zone, work hours, movement preferences, and the answers you give when you set up the app, such as the kind of work you do and the style of breaks you prefer.
  • Where it hurts. If you choose to tell us which part of your body bothers you, we store that region and use it only to choose your exercises. This is health-related information, a sensitive category of personal data. It is optional, used only with your consent, and you can clear it at any time.
  • Completed breaks. When you finish a break, we store when it happened, your time zone, the kind of device, how long it lasted and which movements it included.
  • Schedule. For premium accounts, our servers compute each day's schedule and store its times and the exercises chosen for them.
  • Google Calendar, if you connect it. We store the read-only access Google grants us. To place your breaks around your meetings, we read the start, end and title of each day's events and keep them with that day's schedule, so we don't have to ask Google again.
  • Notifications. For each device where you allow notifications, the address to deliver them to: an Expo push token on phones, or the push subscription your browser creates on the web.
  • Subscription. Payment happens on Stripe, and we never see or store card numbers. We keep your subscription status, its renewal date, the days of your trial you have used and the identifiers Stripe uses for you.
  • Shared pauses. On a team plan, we record which shared pauses you joined, when, how long you stayed, whether you chose to turn on your camera, and the optional reaction you leave at the end. The audio and video travel between participants through Daily. They are not recorded, and we don't store them.
  • Teammate presence. If you turn it on in the desktop app, we keep a short-lived record that you are on a break. It is deleted about 20 seconds after your break ends.
  • Company membership. Your company, role and team. If someone invites you to a company, we keep your email address and the invitation.
  • Verification codes. The six-digit codes we email are stored as hashes and deleted within seven days of expiring.

Why we use it, and on what legal basis

  • To provide the service you sign up for: your account, schedule, sync across devices, subscriptions and team features. This is necessary to perform our contract with you (LGPD, art. 7, V).
  • Features you choose to turn on: Google Calendar, notifications, your camera in shared pauses and showing yourself to teammates. These rely on your consent (art. 7, I), which you can withdraw at any time in the app.
  • Where it hurts: your specific consent for sensitive data (art. 11, I).
  • Keeping accounts and the service secure, preventing abuse, and the record of staff access: our legitimate interest (art. 7, IX).
  • Billing and tax records: compliance with our legal obligations (art. 7, II).

Google user data

We use what we receive from Google only to sign you in and to place your breaks around your meetings, as described above. We don't sell it, use it for advertising, or use it to train artificial intelligence models.

BetterLive's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

If your company gives you BetterLive

Your company's owners and admins see who is a member, each member's role and team, pending invites, and how many members of each team have the desktop app installed, as a count.

For activity they see only totals for the company and for each team, computed every night from everyone's breaks. A total is withheld for any group of fewer than three active people, because below that a total is one person's data. A team manager sees only their own team. Members see their team's totals only if an owner turns that on.

Once a month the company's owners receive a report by email with company-wide figures: the share of people who used BetterLive, breaks taken, minutes moving and cost per active person. It never includes names or a breakdown by team.

Your company never sees your individual breaks, your streak or where it hurts. In the desktop app you can choose to show your name to teammates on your team who have also chosen to, only while you are both on a break, using a short-lived record, deleted about 20 seconds after your break ends. Owners, admins and team managers are never shown and never see it.

BetterLive staff

A small number of BetterLive staff can open your account to help you, fix a billing problem or stop abuse. That includes the data listed above.

Every time staff open an account, and every change they make to it, is recorded with who did it and when. This record keeps the email address of the person concerned even after the account is deleted, so that staff access stays accountable.

International transfers

Some of these providers process data outside Brazil, mainly in the United States. When personal data leaves Brazil, we rely on the mechanisms the LGPD allows for international transfers (art. 33), such as contractual clauses and the providers' own data protection commitments.

Cookies and local storage

We use no advertising or analytics cookies.

This website remembers your theme and language in your browser's local storage.

The web app keeps your sign-in and interface choices, such as your language, in your browser's local storage. It keeps the email address you are verifying in session storage until you finish.

Signing in with Google sets the session and security cookies needed to complete the sign-in.

How long we keep it

We keep account data for as long as your account exists.

Deleting your account removes:

  • your profile;
  • your completed breaks;
  • your schedules, including the calendar events stored with them;
  • your devices;
  • your calendar connection;
  • your subscription record;
  • your company memberships;
  • your shared-pause records and presence.

Deleting your account does not remove:

  • company and team totals already computed, which contain no individual rows;
  • the record of staff access described above;
  • invitations a company sent to your address, which stay with that company;
  • Stripe's own billing records.

Deleting your account ends its personal paid subscription first. If billing cannot be ended, the account is kept so you can try again. If you are the only owner of a company, hand it to another owner or delete the company first.

Your rights

Under the LGPD, and wherever you live, you can ask us to:

  • confirm whether we process your data;
  • give you access to it;
  • correct it;
  • anonymize, block or delete data that is unnecessary or excessive;
  • give you a copy to take to another service;
  • delete data we process with your consent;
  • tell you whom we share it with.

You can also withdraw your consent, and object to processing that doesn't follow the law.

  • In the app. You can change your profile, clear where it hurts, turn off notifications and disconnect Google Calendar from your account settings.
  • By email. For everything else, write to r16221639@gmail.com from the address on your account. This covers deleting your account (the apps don't have a delete button yet) and getting a copy of your data. We reply within 15 days.

You also have the right to complain to Brazil's National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) at gov.br/anpd.

Children and teenagers

BetterLive is meant for people aged 13 and over. If you are under 18, use it with the permission of a parent or guardian, who must also approve any purchase.

We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If we learn that we have, we delete it.

Security

Data travels over encrypted connections.

Passwords and verification codes are stored as hashes, never in plain text. Signing out or changing your password ends those sessions for good.

Staff access is recorded, as described above.

If a security incident could put you at risk, we will tell you and the ANPD as the law requires.

Changes

When this policy changes, we update the date at the top. If a change affects what we collect or who sees it, we tell you by email before it applies.

The Terms of Service cover everything else about using BetterLive.
